My Pet Mice & Mouse Tips

Hello again! Today I wanted to tell you all about my pet mice; and by this you might gain a few tips. This is my first batch of pet mice, so I am not entirely an expert, but I have had them for several months (Or probably a year... it's hard to keep track) and I have learned from my mistakes. (Note: I talk about their personalities like they are human)

Meet The Little Mice + Living With Them

I had three male mice, Biggy, Grayson and Blondie, who passed away near Valentines Day, 2017 ☹. Blondie was my favorite, as a pure joy. Just like his name, he had beautiful golden-blonde fur, which shined like actual gold. He was the easiest to tame, being outgoing and nice to everyone.

Biggy was the hardest to tame, but when I did tame him, He was a sweetheart. He has chestnut brown fur, and gleamy black eyes. He is extremely cute, and the cuddliest, though he doesn't like being petted. Don't blame me if he is a little fat; feeding was the only way I could tame him.

(I didn't have a good Picture)

Grayson was the second easiest to tame. He has soft gray fur, a gray tail, and little gray ear-stubs (I'll explain after I talk about how I got them). He is the peskiest and funniest, even now that he is getting older. He is territorial, however, and that caused a lot of problems.

When I bought the mice, I already planned buying rats, not mice. All I didn't know was that you couldn't buy rats in my pet store. I didn't want mice... until I saw these. Biggy was settled under the wheel, Grayson had his nose peeking out of the plastic castle, and Blondie groomed on top of it.

I couldn't miss out on those cute little ones! I picked out the cage, bedding and food, and they all went to the car with me. It was hard not to touch them for the next day, but Blondie already liked me. Biggy and Grayson were less welcoming. For them it took a more time.

Than, a whole thing started, when Grayson became territorial. When Biggy was younger, he was the type of mouse that wouldn't let himself be pushed around, so the whole thing clashed. Biggy chewed ears, and Grayson became a little violent after Blondie passed.

I had to separate them and did a little research. Turns out I made a mistake putting three males in one cage. It was basically a death wish. I keep them separated, and now they live comfortably. They are one of the many joys in my life, and I look forward to meeting many new mice in my lifetime.

My Mouse Tips

  1. Never put males in the same cage!
  2. Feed them two scoops a day
  3. Always supply them with a hide-away to sleep in
  4. Check their water everyday
  5. Make sure the water bottle dispenses water
  6. Clean the cage once to twice a week
  7. Don't attempt to care for baby mice without having any idea what you are doing
  8.  Don't attempt to care for baby mice without having the mother
  9. NEVER pick up your mice by their tails
  10. Don't give your mice showers... they clean themselves
